The Patrol Division forms the largest operational division within each county office. Patrol deputies are responsible for responding to calls for service, conducting proactive patrols, enforcing traffic laws, and serving as the most visible representatives of the Sheriff's Office in the community.
Core Responsibilities
- Responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service
- Conducting traffic stops and enforcing vehicle codes
- Performing welfare checks and community wellness visits
- Supporting investigations with initial scene response and reporting
- Participating in community outreach events
Patrol Shifts & Coverage
Patrol Divisions operate on a 24/7 rotating shift schedule to ensure continuous coverage across each county. Specialized patrol assignments — such as Blaine County's Desert Patrol Program and Roxwood County's Marine Patrol Unit — supplement standard patrol coverage in areas with unique geography.
Becoming a Patrol Deputy
New deputies assigned to Patrol complete the Field Training Program, a structured mentorship period under the supervision of a certified Field Training Officer (FTO). See the Professional Standards Division page for more information on the Field Training Program, or visit Career Development for current openings.
