The Professional Standards Division (PSD) is responsible for maintaining the integrity, training, and accountability standards of the San Andreas Sheriff's Office. PSD operates statewide across all three county offices and oversees several specialized units and programs.
K9 Unit
SASO's K9 Unit provides specially trained handler-and-dog teams for narcotics detection, tracking, search-and-rescue support, and apprehension. K9 teams are deployed across all three counties to support patrol and investigative operations.
K9 handlers complete an intensive 14-week certification course and undergo regular recertification.
Proactive and Aggressive Crime Enforcement (P.A.C.E.)
The P.A.C.E. unit focuses on proactive enforcement against repeat offenders, organized property crime, and emerging crime trends identified through data analysis.
P.A.C.E. teams work closely with each county's investigations units and patrol supervisors to target high-impact crime areas.
Field Training Program (FTP)
Every new deputy completes the Field Training Program before being released to solo patrol duties. The program pairs new deputies with a certified Field Training Officer (FTO) for a structured, multi-phase evaluation period.
Experienced deputies interested in becoming FTOs can submit a Letter of Interest — see Career Development for current requests.
Internal Affairs & Conduct Oversight
In addition to its specialized units, PSD reviews citizen complaints, conducts internal investigations, and maintains the General Conduct & Ethics SOP referenced in the Resources section of this site.
